In Celebration of Part of the Portsmouth 100 Celebrations
One hundred photographs for one hundred years of Portsmouth. This is PBE's contribution to the year long Part of the Portsmouth 100 Celebrations celebrations, and we could not be more proud of it.
We are so excited to share this with you. Faces and Places of Pompey is a brand new exhibition created specially to mark Part of the Portsmouth 100 Celebrations, the city's centenary celebration, and what a way to mark it.
Portsmouth has always been more than just a place on a map. It is the people you pass on the seafront, the businesses that have been here for generations, the hidden corners that only locals know about, and the everyday moments that make this city feel like home. But most of all it is the unsung heroes. The people quietly doing extraordinary things without any fanfare. Over one incredible week we are putting all of that on the walls.
All 100 photographs are the work of Penny Plimmer JAPICS, whose beautiful eye for this city and its people shines through every single shot. Together we want to shine a light on the faces and places that make Portsmouth what it really is.
Every single penny raised as part of Part of the Portsmouth 100 Celebrations goes straight to Connors Toy Library, a brilliant local charity that has been showing up for Portsmouth families for over 50 years.
Connors Toy Library has been a much loved part of Portsmouth life for over 50 years. Since 1973 they have been showing up for local families, week in, week out, making sure children have the toys, the space, and the support they need to play, learn, and grow.
All across the week they run friendly, welcoming play sessions at community venues throughout Portsmouth. For just £3 a family you get crafts, snacks, singing, and a toy to borrow for the week. No booking, no fuss, just come along. It is the kind of thing that sounds simple but means the world to the families who walk through the door.
But they do not stop there. Their outreach work and mobile toy library goes out to find the families who need them most, those going through tough times, dealing with isolation, disability, financial pressure, or just having a really hard week. They bring resources, warmth, and a friendly face directly to people who might not otherwise be able to access support.
Every penny raised through Faces and Places of Pompey goes straight to Connors Toy Library. So when you sponsor a photograph you are not just getting your name on a wall. You are helping a Portsmouth family have a better week. That feels pretty special to us.
They have even launched their own app so families can see what toys are available before they visit. After 52 years they are still finding new ways to show up for Portsmouth. We are really proud to be supporting them.
